We were new timeshare owners and were excited to discover some exchange opportunities. We booked a trip to the Villa Palomar in Cabo San Lucas. It was our first family trip to Mexico and we were excited about our upcoming adventure.
We arrived at the busy airport and were surprised when we discovered that there wasn't a ramp to help get off the plane. Two strong airport workers carried Debi and her aisle chair down the steps to the tarmac. It was a bit unnerving for her, but she viewed it as part of the adventure. It took awhile to get the rental car and the drive through heavy traffic was stressful. We were glad to arrive at the hotel. We strolled down to the pool area and enjoyed the view of the ocean and the spectacular cliffs of Lands End. We enjoyed the warm tropical breezes as we dined at the beachfront restaurant of the hotel.
The next day we explored the shops in the modern business district of Cabo San Lucas and found the accessibility to be fairly good. We strolled along the marina and enjoyed watching as the charter boats came in with their impressive catches from the world famous fishing grounds just offshore. A glass bottom boat tour helped Debi enjoy the view of the colorful fish in the bay. We heard a lively mariachi band playing in a restaurant and decided to check it out. We carried Debi up a small flight of stairs and enjoyed a delicious dinner and some great music.
The next morning we explored the beaches south of Cabo. The boys and I sampled the snorkeling in the warm waters off the reef. We continued on to San Jose del Cabo . We were impressed with the traditional Spanish architecture and enjoyed checking out the shops. The streets were a bit bumpy and the sidewalks were narrow in some places, but we were able to get to most of the shops. We attended a fun fiesta dinner back at the hotel
and enjoyed the colorful show.
The boys and I got up before sunrise and went fishing on a charter, while Debi enjoyed a morning massage session. It was exciting to be a part of the fleet of boats heading out into the calm waters at dawn. We had excellent fishing and returned with plenty of tuna and dorado. The chef at the hotel did and excellent job preparing the fresh fish for our dinner that night.
We had one mishap on the trip. Debi's wheelchair became the victim of some of the bumpy roads and developed a crack in the frame. We had to get creative with duct tape to hold things together for our trip back home. We found Cabo San Lucas to be an exciting destination and we found plenty of accessible activities.
