Dominica was an intriguing stop on our Caribbean cruise. We new very little about the garden isle, but we heard it was unspoiled and very scenic. We weren't disappointed by our visit. We were impressed by the dramatic view of the town of Roseau and the surrounding mountains. It was a very tropical setting, with the humid rain showers spreading across the forested peaks.
We booked a tour on an accessible van to see Trafalgar Falls. We headed out of town and found ourselves on a narrow, winding road that took us up into the tropical rain forest. It was quite a bumpy ride and Debi's wheelchair came unhooked from the supports several times. We enjoyed watching other tourists drive by in the bright red open air touring cars. The skies began to darken and suddenly we found ourselves in a torrential downpour. The open air touring cars didn't look like much fun in the driving rain. We arrived at the falls, but the rain had made the trail very muddy and impassable for Debi. I hurried down for some photos to take back to her. We slowly wound our way down the road and arrived at the 40 acre botanical garden that was located just out of Roseau. We saw a wide variety of plants and some dramatic evidence of recent hurricanes as we strolled through the park. We enjoyed shopping at a farmers market on the edge of the park and found Debi a nice shell bracelet. We finished our tour with a drive along the scenic waterfront on the way back to town.
