Gold Creek Ponds is a tranquil lake located just of I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass. It is a restored gravel pit that was used during construction of the highway. The paved path provides a delightful journey through pondersosa pines and towering aspens. It is especially beautiful in the fall when the trees are covered with golden leaves and the peaks are dusted with snow.
The one mile loop trail is mostly level and provides numerous photo opportunities. There are numerous interpretive signs that detail the history of the area and provide descriptions of the wildlife in the area. The deep blue lake is a haven for many types of birds and there are beaver in the area. We enjoyed watching the falling leaves which resembled golden snowflakes as they blew from the aspens. There are several picnic tables at the south end of the lake. It takes about an hour to complete the loop. There is an accessible outhouse located at the parking area. A Northwest Forest pass is required to park at the trailhead.
Directions: Take I-90 to the Hyak exit about 2 miles east of the summit. Go
north under the highway and take a right on Gold Creek Road. Continue one mile and turn left. The parking lot is a half mile up the road.
